Skin Cancer Conditions We Treat

At Harley Street Dermatology Clinic, treatment for skin cancer is tailored based on the type, location and severity of the condition. Consultations with dermatologists guide personalised treatment plans, including mole checks and mapping for early detection. Surgical procedures like MOHS Surgery, Wide Local Excision, Cutterage and Electrocautery are available ensuring comprehensive care tailored to individual needs.

Basal Cell Carcinomas

Basal Cell Carcinoma is one of the most prevalent forms of skin cancer, originating in the basal layer and growing at a slow rate. Without prompt attention, it can be difficult to pinpoint – however treatment options are available if medically diagnosed in time.

Squamous Cell Carcinomas

With extensive exposure to sunlight, Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) is the second most common form of skin cancer. SCC primarily affects fair-skinned and elderly individuals, demonstrating once more how vital sun protection can be to prevent its development.

Malignant Melanoma

Melanoma is a destructive type of skin cancer caused by the abnormal growth and spread of melanocytes – cells that give our complexion its colour. Caused by long-term ultraviolet exposure and genetics, it has become one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers worldwide.

Actinic Keratosis

Actinic Keratosis, also known as solar keratosis, sunspots and sun damage. If an AK starts to bleed or rapidly change in appearance or size, this may indicate that it is progressing toward squamous cell carcinoma, and medical advice must be sought immediately.

Moles

While most moles are harmless, some can lead to skin cancer, especially with prolonged UV exposure. Individuals with many moles or irregular ones should monitor changes closely and seek professional screenings for early detection and intervention.

Sebaceous Carcinoma

Sebaceous Carcinoma is a rare form of cancer characterised by a lump or thickening on the eyelid that may become painful or have scabs if located elsewhere on the body. Early diagnosis and treatment are key to increasing the chances of successful outcomes.

SKIN CANCER TREATMENT FAQs

Once skin cancer is diagnosed, the most common treatment involves surgical removal. This procedure is recommended based on the type, location, and stage of the cancer. Surgical options like MOHS Surgery, Excision, and Cutterage and Electrocautery are commonly employed to address skin cancer effectively.
The duration of skin cancer treatment varies depending on several factors, including the type of skin cancer, its stage and the chosen treatment method. Some treatments, such as surgical excision, may be completed in less than an hour-long session. Others, like radiation therapy or chemotherapy, may require multiple sessions over several weeks or months. Ultimately, the length of treatment is determined on a case-by-case basis by healthcare professionals based on individual needs and treatment plans.
Skin cancer can be found anywhere on the body, but it most commonly occurs in areas exposed to the sun, such as the face - lips, ears, nose; neck, arms and hands. However, it can also develop in areas that receive less sun exposure, including the scalp, back and legs.
